Daily Dish: Where is the press? Canadian Junior Hockey News

Published: Monday, 11 Mar 2019

JuniorHockey.com gets a number of emails each week from players and parents asking why their team (or league) does not get coverage on the site. The answer is simple, the team or league is not very interested in promotion of the players. Harsh statement? No.

The next excuse we are going to see is that the teams do not have the budget to hire a media relations director. That is nonsense as well. There are college students all over the country that desire to break into sports or journalism. Most will work for free to get the exposure.

Many teams expect the press to just come to them. It does not work that way anymore. Teams have to be proactive. Media interns can write game previews and recaps, player features, and articles about what the players are doing in the community. Almost all of these articles can get into the paper or on to JuniorHockey.com.

The Major Junior teams get it. A few USHL teams are in on the act, and a number of other teams' content can be found on our site. A brand new hockey league can get national exposure with a minimal budget, the big question is why not your hockey team?
